The CAPM Certification is for people who are new to project management and have little or no project manager work experience. Candidates must have 23 hours of project management education and pass a 3-hour multiple-choice exam.

The PMP Certification is for people who have 4,500 hours of project manager work experience with a college degree  or 7,500 hours of project manager work experience without a college degree. Candidates must also have 35 hours of project management education and pass a difficult 4-hour exam.
