Managing Construction Projects: Advanced Techniques
by Dick Billows, PMP, GCA
Read about how a project manager plans with multiple customer executives about requirements, budget and duration. Read the correct way to ask questions and pin the customer expectations down. Then see the estimating and risk management process and how the PM develops risk mitigation plans. Next you learn how to motivate a team, make clear assignments tailored to each subcontractor and resolve conflicts. Last you see how to track progress and solve problems and make status reports.
Lectures When it Fits Your Schedule... No Time Limits
Dick Billows, PMP, GCA expands on the ideas in your reading with real world examples drawn from his 20 years of experience as a project and program manager. Dick explains techniques for dealing with large customer groups, difficult team members and contractors. Dick also takes you through the process of "selling" the project and your plan to the customer and deal with their objections and changes. Then you go through the best practice steps in estimating, risk management, creating dynamic schedules in MS® Project, modeling alternatives, managing conflict, using earned value analysis, and controlling scope. Watch the lectures whenever and as often as you wish with no time limits. They're a great ongoing reference.

At the end of each module, you'll watch a video of a project manager estimating with their team, working with poor performers and planning with a customer executive. Then evaluate the PM's work . Submit your analysis to your instructor and get written feedback and discussion about the right way to handle the situations.

4. Practice Every Technique with 1-to-1 Coaching

Practice all the techniques in 14 case study-based assignments and in private 1-to-1 role playing simulations with your instructor. You will gather requirements from customers, negotiate with managers and present your plans and MS Project® schedules. Then you move on to assignments to track actual performance, use earned value to assess variances and plan corrective actions to solve problems.

You'll present your estimates of work and duration and your risk management plan and risk responses. You'll have to persuade the tough audience of executives that your plan is the way to go.

You'll receive 1-to-1 feedback and coaching from your instructor on every assignment.

Student Comments

"I am a person that is not very easily impressed. In my business I deal with many people internally and externally that claim a lot of things. As far as Mr. Billows goes what he delivered greatly exceeded what he advertised. On the introduction to the course Dick says 'You won't learn this course from this disk you will learn this course from me."

“The feedback was like an ongoing conversation with a friendly senior PM who had seen it all.”
