Our construction project management courses and certification teach you the real-world, practical techniques you need to succeed as a project manager. You learn to build schedules in MS Project, gather requirements, run meetings, manage risks, avoid problems and make professional presentations and status reports. We offer project management courses and certifications at three levels of complexity: Basics, Advanced, Program and Portfolio Management.

1. Basic Construction Project Management Course & Certification – You Will Learn:

adpm0909 A Proven Project Methodology – Learn our step-by-step process that is straightforward and useful on all your residential or commercial projects, no matter how complex.  It is based on our staff’s 200+ years of experience managing projects and is consistent with the best practices identified by the Project Management Institute (PMI)®.

 

shutterstock_3549660 Project Communications & Presentations –  These skills are so critical for a project manager’s success that we include them in all our courses. You will work privately with your instructor to prepare a plan, schedule and analysis. You will make presentations to your instructor in our web video conference room. You’ll answer questions from the boss and customers (played by your instructor) and receive written feedback, including a video of your presentation.

 

Essential_Lecture-8-6-12BOOK.108-300x168Schedule – Learn to schedule projects quickly and make the best use of people and budget dollars. In our beginning courses, we teach students to use MS Project® or Ganter software  to develop project schedules, assign resources, create budgets and track actual progress against the plan. You will use these tolls and techniques in a construction project case study  and receive feedback from your instructor on your plans, schedules and variance reports.

 

4peoplea Planning & Goal-setting –  Using our project templates and the information you gather from the project boss and owners,  you will practice setting crystal clear project goals and performance expectations for your crews and subs.  You’ll send the completed template to your instructor for their review and feedback. You will also be able to use these templates in your projects at work.

2. Advanced Construction Project Management Course & Certification – You Will Learn:

shutterstock_2048491-300x199Risk Management –  Learn to identify risks, quantify their impact and develop effective risk responses to mitigate the impact.  In our advanced course, you will make a risk management analysis and develop strategies for responding to the risks your construction case study project faces.   You’ll also present your recommendations to the boss/owners in your project case study and get their approval for your risk management plan.

shutterstock_3609855-300x200 Estimating – This is a key project management skill and accurate estimates of time and cost are vital to successfully working with bosses and owners.  You will build on the three-point estimating you learned in the basic course and learn to use order of magnitude estimating, parametric estimating, and rolling wave estimating. You’ll also learn to decide when to use each of these techniques.

shutterstock_3608367-300x201 Motivate Your Team – You will learn to motivate your crews and subs by making appropriate assignments for each one. You’ll  work with them to develop estimates of the work in their tasks and gain their commitment to the goals you are setting. You’ll also learn to deal with bad news properly and make your day-to-day management of the crews and subs an effective motivational tool.

shutterstock_3578359-300x237 Manage Stakeholders –  You’ll learn to identify your project’s stakeholders and their key “hot button” issues. Then you’ll learn how to influence and persuade them to support your project plan, schedule and recommendations. Then you’ll practice using these  techniques in live meetings with your stakeholders (role played by your instructor).

 

3. Program and Portfolio Management Course  – You Will Learn:

shutterstock_3434833-300x201Negotiate – Program and portfolio management requires successful negotiation with members of the executive staff to set project priorities, allocate resources and define the process the organization should follow in managing projects. You will design “best practices” processes for initiation, planning, executing and tracking projects and gain the executives’ support.  You’ll also work with them to set project priorities and allocate resources based on those priorities.

shutterstock_3456545-300x200 Anticipate and Fix Problems –  You will learn to use your project plan, schedule and advanced tracking techniques to identify variances and craft solutions to them. You’ll also learn to present the project’s status as well as your recommendations for corrective action to the project stakeholders.

 

bigpicture Allocate Resources – A key to program and portfolio management is the proper allocation of resources to achieve the organization’s objectives. This includes fully utilizing the resources available for project work.You’ll learn to negotiate these priorities with executives and actually conduct meetings with a group of executives (role played by your instructor) to set an organization’s priorities.

Get Certified – Our programs will guide you through the process of receiving certifications in IT projects, construction projects, healthcare projects, operations projects, consulting projects. We also offer a course that prepares you to pass the Project Management Institute’s PMP exam.
